Objective: To evaluate the effects of mid-follicular LH levels on ovarian response and pregnancy outcome in patients undergoing in vitro fertilization in short-term protocol. Methods: 308 women undergoing IVF/ICSI treatment cycles with GnRH agonist administration in short-term protocol were studied. Results: Compared with patients of LH on day 8 <5IU/l, consumption of exogenous FSH and duration of gonadotrophin stimulation decreased significantly in those with LH on day 8 ≥5IU/l. The number of ≥15mm follicles, estradiol on HCG day were significantly increased, implantation and clinical pregnancy rates were decreased significantly. Conclusion(s): Circulating levels of LH on day 8 had a significant impact on ovarian response and pregnancy outcome, high LH levels in mid-follicular phase were associated with reduced implantation and clinical pregnancy rates.
